Summertime is smoldering here in the south where beating the heat vs looking fresh are at a constant stand off. Keeping with the aesthetic of my earlier post Steal His Style, this is a more feminine way to go in the casual menswear direction. My button up short sleeved shirt is unisex, from american apparel and its tucked into high waisted, black ,distressed, denim shorts, that flatter my legs. My favorite studded boots always give me that edge and flash I love. Add a bow a la Cult Gaia for extra flirty fun. Overall this is a effortless look that’s still on point for more casual outings.

Mid-Summer Pastel Dream

_ZKP3158 _ZKP3172 _ZKP3270

My background in the performing arts definitely comes out in my personal style.  From all the tulle, rhinestones and wigs I’ve worn in my day, I totally dig temporary, dramatic change. This summer I’m having a lot of fun with pastel hair. The trend has been underground for years, only just surfacing on the heads of celebrities and in fashion editorials in recent years. If the permeant fairy hair isn’t a feasible option in your 9-5 routine there are temporary sprays and colors that wash out after one use! Be daring and have fun this summer with a little color! Happy Weekend ❤

My relationship with boyfriend jeans is a love/ hate one. I love the relaxed, cool look and how I always feel tough in them- no one can mess with me in my bf jeans [snap snap]. I hate them because they are baggy, hide my legs [I love showing some leg] and the relaxed fit + lower crotch = shorter looking legs! [gasp].

Taking inspiration from “the boyfriend” aesthetic I paired the jeans with a cutoff band tee, tucked the front of the shirt in the jeans casually and  sported studded heal boots. The boots gave added height without getting too girly in a wedge or heel [ though also totally doable]. The t-shirt has oversized arm holes, which I totally dig, it shows a little skin in a otherwise very covered look and the adorable bandeau underneath has a touch of feminine flair. When trying a men’s inspired look I suggest going feminine and soft with hair and make-up to contrast the lack of femininity in the looks silhouette.

Summer Slipping

Ahhh those days when you work up a sweat just sipping coffee with your friends… at least you can take a stroll in the park in leu of your gym work out and burn just as many calories??? I’m not 100% sure of that fact, but what I am sure of is this weather of 90+ is perfect to bring out that light breezy dress… that may be a slip [??] … but totally works as a dress too.

Playsuits and rompers can sub in for your summer dresses this season and still be on the more upscale side. The plus side is they are more comfortable, can make your legs look longer and no need to worry about a strong summer breeze leaving you exposed at a garden party or on a boardwalk!

City Safari with BlackTop Junkies

Everything about this look makes me feel like I’m on safari with Ralph Lauren. It’s a great blend of casual elegance. The dress is light and breezy- perfect for summers down south or tropical vacations and also doubles as a slouchy tank. The army style vest is what gives this look its casual outdoors feel and the triple wrap belt helps define the waist.

Side story: I  realized I forgot my belt while I was getting ready on location with my photographer friend Michelle. We searched her office for a belt potentially left behind. Then Michelle exclaims “oh how about this!?” as she presents me with her new puppy’s leather [very nice leather might I add] leash. I was in a pinch so I gave it a try. It wrapped three times around my waist and voila it worked out quite nicely. Moral of this story: accessories your pets well, you never know when it might come in handy.
