Kobe Kale Salad

I jokingly dubbed this salad recipe “Kobe Kale Salad” because it requires the chef to massage the dressing into the kale leaves much like the preparation in Kobe beef, however, unlike the Japanese steak , this dressing is not made up of sake [I’m sorry].

This is a great salad to prep at the beginning of the week [or day] and munch on through out since the kale leaves don’t lose their crunch.

A Grown Up Tree House

German design studio, Baumraum architectures, has been designing tree houses for adults [and kids] since 2003.  They are real houses built between the branches, thus capturing the best landscape. Each house begins pre-fabricated and sized for a smaller living space explains Andreas Wenning, designer and heart of Baumraum, everything else is customizable; materials for the interior surfaces,  furniture etc. The installation is done without damaging the trees. There are no nails or screws that could damage the logs but rather systems such as fabric belts or steel cables that do not impact the branches and allow trees to grow undisturbed. All homes are custom made so the cost depends on the requirements. Tree houses built range from 10,000 to € 120,000, yes euros. Construction time ranges from 3-7 months with the only obstacle being obtaining permits, which are subject to local laws.

The featured tree house below is located in Puglia, Avetrana. The owner lives and works in Milan and wanted to expand their house for rental use: it features 8 square meters of indoor area with views of the surroundings. The interior is a minimal/ modern aesthetic. The wood interior surfaces bode well with the outdoor greenery and the modern furniture with modular pieces work very well in the small space.

Weekend Picks

1.  For a change from the flower vase combo try a floating flower arrangement! Check out this great DIY from Rustic Weddings for ideas.

2. The center of the aloe vera plant has beneficial properties such as it’s ability  as alkaline the body, support the immune system and lower blood sugar [see here] . However it is bitter tasting and a slimy consistency makes it difficult for some to stand. Add it to your next smoothie and get the benefits without the bitterness.

3. Cutout one-piece swimsuits that can transition to dinner wear by adding pants or a skirt and then pop into the hot-tub are what European summer vacations are made of.

4. Mochi Ice Cream a delicious Japanese treat, great for summer entertaining. Ice cream on the inside with a sticky rice outer layer these little guys aren’t readily available many places however you can find them at Trader Joe’s!

Mid-Summer Pastel Dream

My background in the performing arts definitely comes out in my personal style.  From all the tulle, rhinestones and wigs I’ve worn in my day, I totally dig temporary, dramatic change. This summer I’m having a lot of fun with pastel hair. The trend has been underground for years, only just surfacing on the heads of celebrities and in fashion editorials in recent years. If the permeant fairy hair isn’t a feasible option in your 9-5 routine there are temporary sprays and colors that wash out after one use! Be daring and have fun this summer with a little color! Happy Weekend ❤

Chili & Lime Mango on a Stick

Tropical temperatures of summer call for tropical treats and outdoor festivities. Taking inspiration from the south this easy and fun-to-eat mango treat will please just about any age range, and it’s good for you too! Mangos provide many health benefits including lower cholesterol, eye health and clear skin [see 10 Health Benefits of Mangos] . I recently discovered this mango on a stick snack at a local outdoor market. Adding a little spice to the typical sliced mango routine the receipe calls for chili powder, lime and salt. I used Pink Himalayan salt in instead of table salt because the Pink Himalayan salt doesn’t contain any additives or chemicals and provides the body with many minerals lost though out the day, especial in the summer heat. [ see more on Pink Himalayan Salt Benefits]

Enjoy!

Tel Aviv Penthouse with A View

This large penthouse on Antokolski Street in the north of Tel Aviv takes up the entire floor [ 600 square meters ] of the building and boasts a 360 city view.  The studio design company Israel Pitsou Kedem Architects used framed sliding glass walls to surround the entire house “to eliminate the boundaries between inner space and outer space”.

The corridors flow from room to room running along the outer perimeter of the apartment, while the rooms located on the inside never interrupt the views. The centerpiece of the apartment is the large open-plan living area, spacious and bright which may be overshadowed by the infinity pool raised and covered in dark stone that reflect the skyline of Tel Aviv.

Decor wise contemporary Italian and European furniture was used including Vitra, Flos lamps, a Boffi kitchen and a large library from B & B Italy. The pops of color though out the decor add a subtle yet pointed contrast from the grey concrete throughout the penthouse.

Steal His Style

My relationship with boyfriend jeans is a love/ hate one. I love the relaxed, cool look and how I always feel tough in them- no one can mess with me in my bf jeans [snap snap]. I hate them because they are baggy, hide my legs [I love showing some leg] and the relaxed fit + lower crotch = shorter looking legs! [gasp].

Taking inspiration from “the boyfriend” aesthetic I paired the jeans with a cutoff band tee, tucked the front of the shirt in the jeans casually and  sported studded heal boots. The boots gave added height without getting too girly in a wedge or heel [ though also totally doable]. The t-shirt has oversized arm holes, which I totally dig, it shows a little skin in a otherwise very covered look and the adorable bandeau underneath has a touch of feminine flair. When trying a men’s inspired look I suggest going feminine and soft with hair and make-up to contrast the lack of femininity in the looks silhouette.
